Preparation for a Marshall Islands safety inspection should begin with two separate questions: what work needs attention onboard, and how is the official attendance being arranged? Answering one does not automatically answer the other.
The Marshall Islands Registry describes its vessel inspection programme as including mandatory Annual Safety Inspections conducted by nautical inspectors for the Administrator. Confirm the requirements applicable to the vessel through the registry’s current instructions.
Verify the appointment route
Ask the manager to confirm the attendance type, inspection arrangement and person or organisation appointed for the work. Where a provider refers to an authorisation, establish what that authorisation covers and whether it applies to the proposed assignment.
An authorisation held by another company should not be used to describe Candour’s services. A preparation review and an official registry inspection must be presented with their respective roles clear.
Organise the vessel review
Bring together the records relevant to the agreed scope, previous findings, outstanding repairs and information needed from shore. Assign each unresolved item to a named owner.
Keep technical readiness and administrative readiness distinct. A document may be ready while the work it describes remains incomplete. A repair may be finished while its supporting record has not been reviewed.
Keep limitations visible
If a space cannot be accessed, a test cannot safely be performed or a record is missing, state the limitation. Agree who will determine the next step and which information must be shared through the official route.
Treat unexpected schedule changes in the same way: update the arrangement openly rather than assuming the original plan still applies.
Use the findings after attendance
Once findings are received, identify the required response, responsible person and evidence of completion. Confirm submission requirements with the relevant authority rather than assuming an internal closure entry completes the official process.
Candour provides preparation guidance within an agreed scope. Honest separation of responsibilities helps the operator understand the service and coordinate the official attendance correctly.
